Most of us don’t need to make speeches. We need to make friends. This is the core message of Black and White by authors Teesha Hadra, a young African American woman, and John Hambrick, a 60-year-old white man. The book helps us see the various and often subtle ways racism continues to be a part of American culture, but then, using their story of friendship as an example, we learn how racism can be disrupted when we risk forging friendships with those who do not look like us. Readers are equipped to take faithful, practical, next steps in obedience to God’s call to join the movement against racism, changing the way we see the world, which, in turn, could actually bring change to the world.
